Our Roots

The archive: where this work began

Before the renaming, we were the Initiative for Sustaining Family Unity, registered in 2013 and working out of Yaba, Lagos. These are the full activity reports from that period, published here with the original field photography.

Programme Reports & Updates

Publications from the archive

Two documents produced under the 2016 Sexual Violence Awareness Project are published here in full. Both were made under our predecessor organisation, the Initiative for Sustaining Family Unity, and are offered as they were written. Research briefs and annual reports across our six thematic areas will be added as they are completed.

Forthcoming
Research briefs, toolkits, and annual programme reports across our six thematic areas.

Understanding Basic Human Rights and Sexual Violence

The student handbook written for the Sexual Violence Awareness Project in secondary schools. Part one sets out basic human rights, the Universal Declaration in plain language alongside the rights guaranteed by Chapter 4 of the 1999 Constitution. Part two covers sexual violence: what it is, the forms it takes, the myths that surround it, and the factors that raise or reduce risk. Part three covers self defence and the practical steps open to someone who has been attacked, with a referral directory and a facilitators guide for trainers and volunteers.

Developed by the Initiative for Sustaining Family Unity with the support of AmplifyChange and Mannion Daniels.

Students’ Speak Newsletter, Volume 1 Issue 1

The first edition of the quarterly newsletter published for the Sexual Violence Awareness Project, written to carry the conversation beyond the classroom. It introduces the project and its objectives, and leads with a student story about abuse by someone in a position of trust, the kind of account the project was built to make speakable.

Published by the Initiative for Sustaining Family Unity with the support of AmplifyChange.
